Ive seen a variety of vibration reports from many different sources over the last few years. There are the in house analytics that vary from an on site certified analyst, to cat 3 certified analysts. There are companies that can come into your facility and then send a report to your MM or RE. There are now remote monitoring that can be built into your CMMS, or cloud based solutions that back end into your CMMS. To be honest, theres at least some value in all of them. However, for the money, its difficult to beat the most advanced cloud based continuous monitoring services. You get some of the best people in the world looking at your data, for a fraction of the price of an on site tech. You also get big data analytics and AI output. You get 24/7/365 service, and the reports are completely customizable to your program.
Sometimes a couple extra pumps on the grease gun can cause overheating and force you to shut down a piece of equipment. In fact, we see a lot more problems from over-greasing than under-greasing. I can’t find a lot of places that are more irritating—or more dangerous—than on top of a cooling tower during the Michigan winter.
